Friendly Sewing

No danger here! 😀

So this past week I’ve been working on some projects.  Still not finishing up my rainbow quilt, or even the big brown ugly quilt….just little things instead!  I’ve basically got my fingers in my ears going “NANANANANNANANANANANA!” when it comes to finishing my big quilts.  How….sad.  I’ll get around to it, don’t worry.  I always end up back around.

I posted on instagram this wallet that I made from a pattern I found on BurdaStyle and I really wanted to make another one to practice.  Lucky for me my friend Meghan really liked it so I decided well I’m just going to make one for her!  And I did!  I am very happy with the second effort.  I can only post a black and white picture because it’s a secret!  I mean she knows about it, and it’s in the mail…and I only took a black and white picture…but the colors and things are secret! 😀

My sister…yes that one that never reads my blog…liked my bag I made for myself so much that she sent me some fabric to make one for her.  Oh man, y’all.  It’s so pretty. Like hard to cut up pretty.  And it’s BEES!  CUTE LITTLE BEES! *screams and squeals of joy!*  (I really love bees….)

BEES!!!!! Fancy bees!

THEY’RE BEE HIVES OMG!

It hurt me to cut them up they’re so cute and pretty.

but I sewed them back together so it’s okay.

So I’ve been working on that.  I really should have gotten it done this weekend what it being 3 days and all…but I did not.  We looked at a house on Friday that was kind of out there and I got bitten!  By TICKS!  MORE THAN ONE!  Yea, so I’ve been an itchy mess, but I did get some of the sewing done.  Probably…have it done this weekend.  Hopefully….maybe.  I’m really just hoping that these bites are just itchy and not some disease.  The last thing I need is some tick disease.  Or any disease for that matter.  So now I have a doctor’s appointment on Thursday…which is postponing the sewing.  Stupid ticks. -_-

Anyhow!  I hope everyone is having a lovely tick bite free week!

Until next time!  Happy sewing!

Goals

My sister (who…I tease about not reading my blog.  Maybe she’ll read this one HAH!) asked me if I had any sewing goals.

To be honest, I hadn’t really thought about it.  So then I did think about it…and I think I’m slowly knocking things off of a list which I think could be considered goals.  So here are all of my sewing goals that I think I have ever had:

  • straight line
  • an even seam
  • a proper corner that isn’t rounded/puffy
  • a quilt for my mom
  • a quilt for my nieces/nephews (getting close to done)
  • a bag
  • …a lined bag
  • a stuffed animal
  • a wallet
  • paper piecing
  • half square triangles
  • a quilt with different blocks
  • Make money selling quilted things
  • Find other people who also like sewing
  • free motion quilting
  • embroidery with my machine
  • make something with scraps

Those are the things I can think of right off the top of my head.  Do you have any sewing goals?  Am I the only one who just went in without any goals?!

Until next time!  Happy sewing!  Oh, and happy long weekend coming up! 😀

P.S. Here’s my baby stuff progress

The Fever

So, here I am.  Almost 30, and while I did at one point have “the fever” I overcame it, and I seem to have been able to keep it at bay.  “What fever? Is there some new animal flu going around?!” No.

BABY FEVER.

image

YES.  Baby fever.  It’s something I think most women have at some point where your brain is just consumed by babies, baby things, and you think of all the good things about babies; the way they smell, how they reach out to you and say ‘I love you’ with a giggle and a ppttthhh because they don’t even have teeth yet, but they love you…and not the 3am exploding diapers.

image

I did have the fever once, it was about seven years ago.  Not married, but I was living with my now husband, and I just wanted a baby.  I didn’t even consider that we had a one bedroom apartment that we could barely keep clean, I was hopping from one crummy job to another, we were bickering all the time (typical we just moved in together ‘why do you do that’ type stuff) and eating out for 80% of our meals.  My husband, I am 100% willing to admit, trained me.  He taught me all these things that I didn’t really even consider before, like stability in a job and home and saving money and uhm…maybe we should be MARRIED?!   before talking about BABIES?!  and have a house with a good school zone and this and that.  So, after that, my baby fever subsided.  Then puppy fever set in (HAHA!) and I never gave up on puppy fever, and as soon as we got our first house we did get a puppy.  Another story for another day.

Just because I don’t have the fever doesn’t mean I don’t have the fever for making baby things!  I’m still going to be making my bags, and I’m actually working on a wallet right now, but I’m going to branch out a little bit.  I love baby fabrics.  They are just the cutest little things with cute animals and just sweet baby stuff and they just make you go “aaaaaaawwwwwwwww”.  I love things for babies, like baby quilts?  Hello, 10,000,000 times faster than an adult quilt.  And way cuter.  So now I’m going to be making some things that I didn’t even know existed until I saw them on Pinterest…(the devil)

In order to get ready for my baby sewing adventures, I had to buy some baby fabric.  OBVIOUSLY!!!  Thankfully Stitchin Stash has me covered.  I absolutely love Julie’s store.  She is always so quick to ship, she has great bundles, she’s just fantastic!

So this is what I’ve gotten in the mail today!  I just ordered this Wednesday!!  YES!

SO CUTE!!!!

Also, keeping along with this whole, baby theme!  Our quilt guild is having a charity sew tomorrow!  We’re sewing baby smocks for NICU babies.  I know, I know, just, control the AW’s!!!!  It’s the sweetest thing ever.

Anyhow, I hope everyone’s having a lovely week!  Until next time!

Happy sewing!

Snowballing!! Avalanche alert!

Yes.  In May!

I know that this just doesn’t happen to me, (right? RIGHT?!)

When I am feeling sad or in a funk, I dive into making.  I sew random things, I don’t let my disdain for cooking keep me out of the kitchen.  (and hey, even if I don’t like to cook, doesn’t mean I can’t do it.  I can do it pretty spectacularly, and it’s ALWAYS pretty, but I just don’t….enjoy it.  It’s so gross.  Meat all in your fingers…or flour that won’t go away…greasy EVERYTHING…basically I don’t want to make food.  I do it….but I do not enjoy it.)

wpid-img_20140424_192338.jpg

Amazing chicken enchiladas. Again, I CAN do it, I just don’t WANT to do it.

Anyhow…so yes, I delve into making things.  The only bad thing is that there isn’t enough time.  I work full-time, so…I’m at this whole, job thing all week.  So when I get home, I don’t want to make dinner but I do it anyway, I don’t want to go to the gym but I do it anyway (I’m still about 7 pounds away from my first weight goal, so I need the gym), and I only get to sew for like, a couple of hours at the most.  Which…I mean is basically pointless.  In my world anyway.

Sad Sunday sewing.

wpid-img_20140427_193221.jpg

He did help me feel a little better.

When I go to my sewing room, Al follows me and sits on the bed across the room, stares at me and whines.  He doesn’t like it that my husband and I are in two separate rooms, and he doesn’t like that he can’t sit on me.  So, he just whines.  I take this as he needs to go out, so we go, he doesn’t do anything and we go back inside…and he whines some more.  This continues until I can’t stand it anymore, and then we go watch tv.  Meanwhile I’ll have gotten two pockets sewn, flipped and pressed.  Basically nothing done.  Like, why did I even turn my iron on at all?!  It’s turned off twice from inactivity…

wpid-20140327_175638.jpg

“why can’t I sit on you?”

Well, while I’m wanting to sew and can’t, I think of things I want to sew.  My brain literally fills up with “I wish I could be sewing this, oh I should be finishing that, I am literally almost done with that”‘s and it gets a little crippling.  So much that between Al whining at me and the two seconds of sewing I can get in, that I feel like I’m getting nothing done.  Then I think of ideas for my etsy shop.  This, is no help at all.  I want to get enough things in my store that instead of having sections like “bags, coasters, quilts” and whatever, (lame.) I want to have a cute, a fluffin, and a stitch sections.  For example, cute stuff would be like, stuffed animals, or would they be fluffin, one of the two.  Stitch would be like coasters and bags….I guess?  See, do you see what my brain is doing?!  It’s all squished in there not making any sense!!!!

My planner is really helping me out with all of this.  When I can make a list, and I can cross things off, I feel a little more accomplished and less in a whirlwind of “what am I even doing with my sewing life?!”  So if you, like me, feel like you’re in a whirlwind of not getting what you want done accomplished, make a list.  It helps me keep myself accountable.  Also, I make little notes like, when I did something so that if I wonder “when’s the last time I cleaned the bathroom?” I can look and say “Oh, last Wednesday”.

Anyhow, so that’s what is going on with me.  I’m trying to make my lists and stick to them.  Even though there are arrows…and..scribbles. :O

Sewing has been bumped like, 3 days. At least I can cross off “Blog” now, right?! 😀

I hope you’re all keeping a little more motivated and organized than I am!  Until next time!  Happy sewing! 😀
