Hello 2017

You’re going to be better, yes?

Last year I had some pretty lofty goals set for myself.  I did pretty well at tackling my goals, but after looking back at them, I could see a lot of room for improvement.  So without dragging this out, here are my 2017 goals, and how I plan to keep myself accountable!

1: Goal: Life Balance

I have been struggling with balancing my life lately.  I have been isolating myself to a point that I get too deep in my own head and I get paralyzingly overwhelmed.  It’s not hard for me to fix, I just have to keep tings prioritized and in order.  The problem is that I will focus too much on one thing and forget about everything else that I need to take care of, and the next thing I know I’m done with a quilt or a pile of plushies but there’s no bread made or laundry done and the dust bunnies are giving Al bad ideas.

Plan: Write it out

So how will I keep myself accountable?  I just need to go back to the basics here and write out my week plans.  I have a great planner, and I just have to set aside some time each week to plot out the week and leave some wiggle room for things that come up.  If I can write out my plans and have a list to know what needs to be done when it will be much easier for me to keep things in check.

2: Goal: Improve Etsy/ Square Shops

I’ve been letting things fall out of my Etsy shop since last year, and I even made a post about focusing on just selling quilts and stuffed animals going forward, so I need to work on building up that stock.  Luckily I have a ton of quilts in various stages of completion, so maybe I can get a lot of those bad boys (and bad girls!) cranked out and ready to go!  I’ve also been working on another shop that is through Square, which is what I use to make sales at craft fairs.  I would like to go completely off Etsy because the traffic is spotty for me.  Square is just more customizable, less expensive, and some little features about it are a little better than Etsy in my opinion.

Plan: Make it Work!

How I will keep myself accountable here is improve my pictures, take time each week to plan out my social media posts, get the word out!  If you want your business to grow, you have to nurture it, and I feel like I put a lot of time into it, but I know I can do more.  And, thanks to technology, I can do it without killing myself.

3: Goal: Fitness

I used to be so thin, but I was never very fit.  I know everything lately is all “love yourself at every size” and “strong is the new thin” and body shaming and photoshop and whatever; I’m not about that.  I don’t think I’m ugly, believe me.  (that sounds terrible)  I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I wear anything I want to and feel comfortable in, I just don’t feel like my body is my own anymore.  I know what I have to do to get back to “you need to eat a hamburger” “your clothes look like doll clothes” wind knocking me over in the parking lot thin.  But more than that, I know what I have to do to also be fit.

Plans: Just do it

I have to keep myself in check with how much I eat.  I know that it’s not really WHAT I eat as much as HOW MUCH I eat.  I just love eating so much, that it really gets the best of me.  I do have a sweet tooth, and that is a little more about what I eat vs how much…but it’s also a how much…because I love ice cream so much.  However, I do know that there is a balance that I have found before that allows for ice cream! 😀  Not only do I need to watch how much I’m eating, I need to get myself moving.  Being a bookkeeper and a quilter doesn’t keep me moving very much. (big shock!)  I know that I need to (also) get into a better sleep routine so that I can get up earlier and walk before work.

4: Goal: Finish Sewing

(I mean that’s what this blog is about, not this other stuff!)  Oh man, what are my 2017 sewing goals?!  I want to finish all of my WIPs.  YES!  I have so many projects that just need to be finished!  I’m not saying I just want to finish those and make nothing else because I can’t do that, that’s just silly.  But I do want to finish everything that I have going.  Even, my big ugly brown quilt.  (oh my GOD!)

Plan: Write it down, knock it out

Sounds simple, right?  I hope it really is that simple.  I will probably hop between projects because that’s what I do, but I do plan on knocking each of these WIPs out.  Here’s how I plan on doing it: Writing down each quilt and making a to-do list for each one, for example, if the top is finished, then it needs backing, quilting, and binding.

And those are my goals for the year!  They may sound kind of vague, but I’ve got them written down with lists and bullet points and bla bla bla.

  1. I love your goals and your thought process behind each one. I’m making better goals for myself this year too and one is to SELL my quilts. I’ve got quite a pile stacked up but I’m just not sure how to go about it. I’d love to see more posts about what you’re doing with Square and Hootsuite. Happy 2017!

Tell me what you think!
