This month I’m heading to Savannah for Quiltcon!
I applied to be a super volunteer for QuiltCon 2017, and I was accepted! I don’t know what that means really, but I am very excited. I’ve never been to a convention like this before, so I’m pretty excited. Sure, I’ve been to quilt shows large and small, but this is different!
So while I don’t know exactly what I’m going to be doing, I do know that I’m going to probably be on my feet a lot. I’m also going to be out of town for almost a week, and I’m going to be living in a hotel, unable to sew, no puppy…different time zone…what am I doing?!
NO! IT’S GOING TO BE OKAY! GET IT TOGETHER, ASHLEY!
Alright, alright, it’s going to be okay. I know some of my guild buddies are going to be going as well, my mother in law is coming with me, and we’re even working on planning some meet-ups! Plus there will be quilts, and people I only know from the internet, sewlebrities!!! MARY FONS IS GOING TO BE IN THE SAME PLACE AS ME!
GET! IT! TOGETHER!
Okay, okay, deep breaths, deep breaths.
So besides breathing techniques, what am I going to do to prepare? Here are a few key items I plan on bringing to make my trip to make things stress free, fun and not exhausting.
Necessities:
You know, all the stuff you need! 😀 I’m packing clothes for five days, my tiny toiletries bag, probably nail polish because I’m a nerd, probably two phone chargers, backup batteries, and my schedule printed out for the trip in my purse.
Comfort:
I like things. I really like having my own things, comfortable things, and familiar things. So a few things I’m planning on bringing for comfort are my tennis shoes, some sweat/lounge pants, and probably a pillow. I may even get a new pack of socks to bring because nothing beats that new sock feeling.
Wants:
Some stuff that I’m bringing just because I want to and may or may not even use it the whole time are my 3DS, my Nook, an actual camera, and I’m also going to get the Quiltastic Shopapalooza passport for the QuiltCon shop hop! I’m bringing my Nook so that if I’m not exploring and I just want to wind down, I can just kick back and read. My 3DS because it’s always fun when you have it on Streetpass mode and you open it up later and you’ve had “visitors”. I’m also bringing an actual camera because my phone is terrible and I don’t know if I’m going to have a new one before this trip is starting.
So what kind of plans do I have while I’m in Savannah?
I honestly don’t know! Like I said a bunch of my guildmates are coming as well, and we’re planning on some sort of dinner or meet up. I kind of want to explore Savannah and maybe see some haunted places. This is one of the rare occasions I’ll be able to do something like that, and I love that kind of stuff. I don’t want to make too many plans though just because I don’t know how tired I’ll be from volunteering, and I don’t know what I’m going to be doing, so, yep.
I’m really looking forward to doing a recap of the trip once I get back, so keep an eye out for that! Are you coming to QuiltCon? I’d love to meet you! 😀 Let me know below! Until next time, happy sewing!
I’m going to QuiltCon too…I’m within driving distance so I’m bringing my machine with me! I’ve never taken her on a trip before so this will be something new. I have a few classes scheduled but like you I want to ‘meet up’ with people I’ve met online so I’ve purposely not overbooked. I’ll be bringing two different pairs of tennis shoes cuz I’m sure my feet will get tired. I sure hope to see you while we’re there!!!
