A look back at my trip to Savannah, GA for QuiltCon 2017.
So, there is so much that I don’t know if I could ever cover how great everything was, but I’ll do my best. I don’t think I can easily break this down into days, because I’m sure I’ll forget things doing it that way, but I will try to go over a list to cover everything I can.
Sewlebrities
I am the most star struck person in the face of anyone who is anyone, so is it any shock that when I met Mary Fons I cried? That isn’t to say that Vanessa (Crafty Gemini) or Jenny (Missouri Star Quilt Company) are any less special, because I couldn’t even speak the first time I saw Jenny, and I shamelessly chased down Vanessa. Here’s a look at some of these incredible people I met during the week.
Inspiring Quilts
Obviously, there were so many amazing quilts on display, I couldn’t get a picture of all of them, but oh wow. It really had me ready to get back to work as soon as possible. Here is a look at some of my favorite quilts from this weekend.
Moving Quilts
I said it once and I’ll say it again, it was kind of sad that there was a giant quilt convention with two different mass shooting quilt displays, but that’s just where we live now. I am so sad I didn’t get a picture from the Charleston quilt display, but they got enough donations of 3″x6″ bits of fabric with people’s names written on them to make seven full sized quilts and one lap quilt, and they were all quilted with amazing grace. It was so touching and sad. The Quilts for Pulse display really touched me, and I was so glad that I knew my guild participated. Here are some of the really touching quilts I saw on display.
Fun with Friends
I can’t really explain what it was like for me to be in a large event like this where everyone loves all the same thing, everyone is so inclusive, and everyone is excited to be there. I had such a fantastic time hanging out with friends, making new ones, and talking about everything from quilts to boxing to scandals (because yes, there were some!) One night our guild, Music City MQG, went out to dinner and while we were there I asked if each of them would write down their favorite part of QuiltCon, and it’s been so fun to look back and see what each person took away from the trip.
Savannah, GA
I’ve never been to Savannah before, and if you haven’t, be ready to take in such an incredibly beautiful city. I couldn’t even get over how beautiful everything was at every turn. From all of the trees, all of the statues and architecture, not to mention what a fascinating and rich history! My Mother in law and I even went on a “haunted” pub crawl, it was a little more historic than haunted, but still so much fun. Plus…THERE ARE DOGS EVERYWHERE!
My advice, if you ever get the chance to go to QuiltCon, go. If you get the chance to go to Savannah, GO! If you were lucky enough to go to QuiltCon in Savannah, I’m right there with you. 🙂

Excellent wrap up! I echo everything you said…so sorry we didn’t get a chance to meet but I’ll bet we passed each other a few times, lol!
You actually make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually something that I believe I would by no means understand. It kind of feels too complicated and extremely large for me. I’m having a look ahead to your subsequent publish, I’ll attempt to get the hang of it!
