A look at this book, available May 9th!

I was really excited about reviewing this book, because I love precuts, but I don’t always like the patterns I find for them.  This is especially true for jelly rolls!

Pam and Nicky Lintott have put together a fantastic book of fifteen jelly roll quilt patterns that you could put together (at least the top , right?!) in a weekend.  They all use a jelly roll and a little yardage, all clearly laid out.  The patterns all have suggested quilting designs and binding suggestions.  They’re all really easily understood patterns, and would be very easy for anyone at any stage of their quilting journey to make a pretty big quilt that looks very difficult, but could come together pretty quickly.

I also really appreciate all the illustrations and actual quilt pictures included in this book.  I am a visual learner, so seeing it illustrated and also seeing close up images of that executed really helps drive it in.

I was excited to try one pattern in particular, Picnic Time.  I really liked the idea of sort of scrappy triangles mixed with solid triangles, and I’ve had this jelly roll of True Colors Tula Pink just burning a hole in my stash, so I went out and got that big 60 degree triangle ruler, and I got to work.

Who doesn’t love a good rainbow quilt?!  And I actually have enough triangles left over to do something cool on the back, you know, when I get to it! 🙂

I can honestly say that this book title is accurate, because if I would have just stuck with it, I probably would have finished this quilt (well, at least the top for sure!  Maybe if I stayed up later than I do the whole thing!!) in just one weekend, which surprised me!  I’m not always the fastest quilter when it comes to piecing, so this was a big shock!  And it was such an easy pattern to follow, even for me who is not a fan of triangles that aren’t making up half a square.  I would definitely recommend picking this book if you want to freshen up how you look at jelly rolls quilts!  I received a digital copy of this book through the Edelweiss blogging for books program.  Until next time, happy sewing!
