Netflix and Sew: Glitch

Spoiler alert: I love it.

So, I only recently discovered this show on Netflix.  There are two seasons of it available now, and I’ve only watched one season so far.  This Australian show is something so different than anything else I’ve seen on TV, yet it feels familiar.  Something about this show is giving me serious Lost vibes, which is probably why I like it so much.

We start out in a small (fictional) town of Yoorana, Australia.  It seems what I would expect from a small outlier town in Australia; some out of town houses, a little cute downtown, a mixture of aboriginals and “whitefellas”, everything looks dusty.  So a guy is riding his bike at night, and notices someone in the graveyard.  He then sees there are multiple naked people in the graveyard, covered in dirt.  The police come out, the people don’t know what they’re doing there, most of them seem fine, but just confused.  They’re cleaned up and a doctor in a “surgery” (which, is kind of like a mini clinic) and she says they’re all fine (except one girl that has a human bite on her leg) and when the policeman comes back in, he recognizes one of the people as his wife.  His wife that died two years ago!!!

All of the people are slowly gaining their memories, trying to figure out how they died, when they died, and what they’re doing back.  The people are all from different time periods, including one man that is the original mayor of the town from the 1800s.  I think the confusion factor is what reminds me so much of Lost.  There is mystery in why the people have come back; was there some unfinished business?  There is mystery in how they died; were they murdered?  However, some know why they died, some know that there is a reason they need to be there (family secrets and cover ups) so what does this all mean?  And, HOW THE HECK DID THEY COME BACK FROM THE DEAD?!  They’re in perfect health, they’re not decayed in any way, they’re bodies are fully restored.  They discover by accident that they’re actually trapped in Yoorana.  If the “risen” try to leave a certain boundary, their eyes and ears start bleeding and they basically die and decompose right on the spot.

I don’t want to spoil the show, but there are lots of side plots going on at once.  It’s not too complicated to keep up with, and they’re all just deep enough.  I also love listening to their accents. 🙂

So, here’s what you need to know: dead people come back to life, by the end of season one we don’t know exactly why, there’s sad stuff going on (duh, dead people) and some characters that should be trustworthy…but are they? (but aah thay? -in an Australian accent..lol)  There are two season available, 12 episodes in all right now, and I’m not sure that it’s been canceled.  I finished the first season in a long binge while making some bunnies…just in case you were wondering.

Have you watched it yet?  How’d you like it?  Let me know!  Until next time, happy sewing!
