Bad Girl Quilt Along!

More of a look into my quilt along progress!

A few months ago I saw Southern Charm Quilts release her pattern, the Bad Girl quilt.  I absolutely love it, and I love that it is the partner to the Good Girl Quilt.  I love how the Good Girl Quilt is very simple and sweet and comes together quickly, and the Bad Girl Quilt is half rectangle triangles, dresden plates, stars, corner 4 patches, everything!

Starting in May, Melanie started a quilt along for the Bad Girl quilt!  I mentioned before that I was so excited to actually find out about a quilt along before it started and for a pattern that I really like, that I decided this is it.  For once, I’m going to start a quilt during a quilt along for a pattern I’m excited to make and it’s going to keep me accountable! 😀

First thing’s first, I had to decide fabric I wanted to make this quilt from.  Now this is a great pattern for fat quarters, and as a fat quarter queen, I decided I’d use some fat quarters I already own and be good and not buy fabric I didn’t need.  Around 2015 or so I won a fat quarter bundle of Hello Ollie by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics.  I’d never known what to do with it because all I’d ever done with the bundle was cut a charm pack for my friend Melinda and just put it back in my closet.  I liked the idea of using these sweet, feminine fabrics with all these flowers and birds and swans for a “rebellious” bad girl quilt.  I did have to buy some fabrics to go with it for the background, and I got sweet mint solid from Art Gallery and one of the prints for the backing.

I decided to go with the throw size, so I’ll need 15 stars and 15 4 patch dresden corner blocks, and that will go right along with the quilt along prompts.  That means I’m only using 15 of the fat quarters (you’ll  have a star block for each print!) and so I decided not to use the prints with light green because I thought they’d blend into the background too much.

So far I’ve got all of my fabrics cut, they look fantastic laying there, waiting to be assembled! 🙂  The first week’s prompt was cutting, and the next three weeks of prompts are making the star blocks!  I am only a touch behind because I had to finish what was actually on my wall so I’d have the room to put this quilt up (whoops) but I’m sure that I’ll catch up!  I’ve got three or four more cut and stacked and ready to be assembled!

I’m very tempted to jump ahead and do the dresden blocks, but I’m holding back!  I’m keeping right along with the prompts and I’ll have all of the stars then I can move on to the next tasks!

Are you doing any quilt alongs?  Tell me about them!  I’m also doing another quilt along coming up in June 3rd! (oh I just realized that’s like, now lol)  Until next time, happy sewing!
