We were out and about this weekend at the Pleasant View Tent Sale! We had a fair time, even though the weather was less than desirable! We had a pretty good turnout. There weren’t large crowds and lulls of no one, it was all pretty consistent traffic. I feel like I need to do a post about craft fair etiquette, because some people made some major faux pas this weekend. We had a lot of fun meeting some members of our town’s parks & rec department, and we may have scared them by screaming “YOU’RE LESLIE KNOPE!!” but I really feel like if that’s your job, you should watch the show about your job! 😀
Next weekend we’ll be out again at the Nashville Farmer’s Market as part of the Nashville Scene’s Crafts & Drafts benefiting Soles4Souls. A reminder to anyone who’s planning on coming to bring a pair of gently used shoes (or new shoes!) to donate. There’s going to be crafts, beers, craft beers! And a wide range of things to shop for and see. Come by and see us! We’ll be doing our best to stay warm and cheerful!
So what have you been up to out there? We’ve been sewing away! Hope you have been as well! Until next time, happy sewing!
It’s been a busy one over here. A week of getting things done that I’ve been putting off!
First, I have been eyeing this quilt I saw on…you guessed…the devil’s website. I had the layer cake ready to go, and I finally got around to getting it cut up and placed! And man, do I feel better! Now…I just need to piece it!
The second thing I’ve gotten done was making this great craft fair apron…also from the devil. I felt like the only thing missing was a zipper pocket, so I sort of managed one in there. It resulted in one messier seam than I would have liked, but it’ll be alright.
I also got these little guys made and listed, just in time for the craft fair!!! They are designed to match the red wallets in my shop right now.
Also!!! Just in time for the craft fair!!! My husband, the ever handy man he is, fancied me up a pegboard display!
To say I’ve been busy would be an understatement. 😀 Well, that’s all for now, I hope you all have a safe and fun 4th of July! Woo!! Red white and BOOM it up!
Until next time! Happy sewing!!
So I’ve decided to sign up for a craft fair in July that is a bit smaller than the Tomato Arts Festival, just to kind of test the waters. This group does a show every month, so I’m going to check out the one next month so I can make sure I have a good idea of what I’m getting into. I drew up a little list of what all I’m going to be making to feel like I have enough stock:
- Headbands – 40 total, 10 of 4 different colors
- Al’s Pals – 20 total, 10 bunnies and 10 puppies
- Wallets – 20 total, current stock, (7) plus 6 each red Miss Kate, 6 blue Miss Kate, and maybe one other one
- Bags (current stock, 2 not reserved) maybe 2 more small bags?
- Scarves (current stock 8, 2 of 4 styles)
- Diaper straps (current stock, 14)
- Baby quilt (depends on if finished)
What else should I add? Do I have too much variety? Do I have enough stuff? I don’t think you can have too much stuff…who knows. That’s what I intend on finding out! 😀 I’ll have a 6 ft table area to work with, so I’m going to need to come up with some decorating ideas as well (hello devil) and I’ve already created a board.
Incase you’re looking at this list and…Al’s Pals caught your eye…GOOD.
Al, as you already know, obviously, is such a huge part of my life. He is a special little guy, and I obviously want to share him with the world. So I decided that I wanted to make some little stuffed animals, (which, I have STILL not ever blogged about!) since Al loves stuffed animals (that’s why he destroys them) and make a little story to go with them about sharing or something for little kids and call them Al’s Pals. Ole Al, teaching the kids to share. 🙂
So, get ready, the next few posts are probably going to be updates on the craft fair, as well as my Riley Blake Fabric Challenge entry…which…is coming along. 😀
Until next time, happy sewing!!!
So, there are a whole lot of things going on in our house right now that mostly involve moving, and it’s 100% stressing me out. Typically when I’m stressed I tend to lose weight (don’t hate me…I didn’t ask for this!), so will this be a win-win?! New house, smaller waistline?! We’ll just see! I am kind of excited at the prospect of having a sewing room that is just a sewing room and not a spare bedroom, must better lighting (anything would be an improvement) and being able to like, really set it up exactly how I’d like it to be. 😀
Because of these stressful things, I haven’t been doing a WHOLE lot of sewing. I know, it’s just awful. Sewing should help with the stress, and I’m doing the opposite. The times that I have hunkered down to sew, it’s not been turning out quite like I’d hope, so that’s been no fun.
I started making a bag for my husband’s aunt so that when we go down there for Easter, I can give to her. Well the first run turned into a big fiasco. One of the patterns got cut too short, it affected all of the columns, the fix was working for half of the process but then just stopped. Why, I don’t know!!! Plus, for some reason, all of the columns I was sewing together started bowing. They’re starting to look more backwards C like than just columns, and again, I have no reason why. The more they bowed, the less the seams were lining up, so I told the hubs, he suggested just starting over. Yea, because it’s that easy, right?! O_O
Well it turns out in this one instance it was. I had plenty of leftover pieces from this jelly roll I was using, so I decided to make another, just a quicker one. Instead of doing the postage stamp patch work, I am doing this bag the same way I have done the other bags in my shop; straight rows. I got that all sewn together, and I FMQ’d it, got all the pieces cut out, got my zipper…just sitting there waiting…
So now really all I need to do is put all this together. It will be totally fine, I know. So that’s what I’ll be working on tonight. Tomorrow’s quilt guild time (Yay!) and we’re doing paper piecing. Not the English style, the one with the paper base…and you sew on the paper, or something. I’m excited because I have seen so many of these patterns that I’ve wanted to try, and now, once again, my guild is pushing this little bird out of the nest and right into “you’re going to face your fears and sew what you are afraid to sew” real life. I’m using this cute little lady bug. It is not hard looking at all, so I’m pretty stoked.
Anyhow, that is all that’s really going on right now; stress, being busy, bag sewing problems, y’know, stuff.
Until next time, happy sewing!
So I’ve been a bad wife…well, a bad housekeeper I guess would be a better thing to say. You see, I keep putting off as much house work as possible for as long as possible so I can sew. Yes! I have to admit the problem to fix it!!
My husband doesn’t seem to mind, so I’m not going to sweat it. I mean, he sees it as I’m trying to earn us some monies, which I am, so, he’s not going to say “hey quit playing around in there and fold some laundry”. He wouldn’t ask me to leave work to do the dishes, so how is this any different? (I mean, that’s what I’m telling myself anyway) I have even said “y’know what, I don’t care how much weight I want to lose, I’m not going to the gym today so that I can sew forever!!!” I think I’m on a dangerous path…but it’s fun! 😀 It’s not like nothing is getting done at all; he goes around and tries *bless his heart* to do some things, and eventually I’ll stop and say to myself I need some clean clothes…better do something about that. Our house is definitely not turning into an episode of hoarders.
I think last night/ yesterday was one of those moments when you think to yourself “this is real” which…is silly because I almost never do that. I think it’s like after Walter White made his first money after cooking up a batch of meth. (okay we’ve been watching Breaking Bad on Netflix, like every single day) Anyway, I finished up a bag (which is now on my Etsy page) and we watched our last two available Breaking Bad episodes. Well then it was around 8pm…and I went back into my sewing room and I was only going to cut some fabric up. I ended up cutting, sewing the strips together and pinning it to the batting. So around 10:30pm I decided we should probably go to bed…I mean we did have to get up and come to work today. Now, I understand most people are like “so what, you started a project immediately after finishing one, what’s the big deal?” okay I do not do that. I am a “alright, one down, in a week I’ll start another one” kind of…project starter. I mean if I even get to the finished part. *cough cough two unfinished quilts*
In other news, last night I was taking pictures to put my bag online, and my husband walked in and saw my tiny “studio” and thought it was hysterical. I’ve mentioned before, he works at an art college, and so he’s told me some of the small things he’s picked up just from talking to students about photography, and I’ve tried to implement them into my photography for etsy. I have a tiny lightbox, which is really too small for these bags I’m making but great for small items. Anyhow, I had my stuff all set up, and there I am on the floor with my tiny tripod and my 8.1 megapixel camera from four years ago and he’s all “your phone probably takes better pictures you know” and then he says “well maybe I’ll get you a nicer camera…..you know after you start selling stuff” I thought it was so sweet. Okay I like any time I get anything, or even if I don’t get anything but someone says ‘I want to get you this’ it just warms my heart. I don’t know why…you’d think only getting things would make me that happy.
Anyhow, I hope everyone is having a lovely winter! I know I’m ready to be uncomfortably hot every day! Stay warm everyone!
Look everyone is always coming up with cute things; WIP Wednesday, tutorial Tuesday, so I’m making it Fabric Friday.
I was really hoping to have my bags at least started by today, but that’s where the postal service gets involved. I was supposed to have my fabric delivered Wednesday, which would have been great. But, it didn’t come while I was at lunch, then when I got home after work there it was, the dreaded ‘sorry we missed you!’ card in my mailbox.
So, I took my card yesterday (Thursday) to the post office close by…only to be told I have to go to the other post office. Okay, I wouldn’t say I have a vendetta against this other post office, but I do hate it a whole lot. They’re mean, they send all postal notifications in Spanish, they delivered a super suspicious box to me and then gave me an attitude about coming to pick it up. I mean I’ve emailed the post master general about it. Yes, I actually did it. I think it helped, I don’t get nearly as much Spanish mail anymore.
So, today I’m going over to the post office of doom on my lunch break, because they close at 4:30 (what kind of crap is that? 9-4:30?!) and that’s when I get off work. Then, I can FINALLY get my little jelly roll and stripes and get to work.
Do you have any plans this weekend? My husband’s bff (do grown men have bffs? I think so) is spending a few days with us starting this weekend, and we have a nephew birthday party!
Happy sewing everyone!
I thought I’d put up some pictures of my previous things I’ve made!
Here’s a picture of my nephew’s quilt (I have so many nieces and nephews!)
Here’s my husband modeling the quilt…sort of.
Here is the front and back of a tiny quilt for one of my friend’s first baby.
Here are some bff baby quilts I made for two friends who are bff’s and had their babies a few weeks apart!
Here’s a little wristlet bag I made, a Japanese knot bag. Its a great bag!!
