dear blog…

I’m not ignoring you.  I promise.  I’ve just slipped into a little slump of easy distraction and busy time that doesn’t involve sewing.  I have been doing some plotting and planning to sew, so there’s that.

I’ve got a little Superman quilt up on my planning wall right now.  It’s for a very special little friend of mine named Caleb.  He’s the sweetest little boy.  Without going into a whole lot of details, he’s in a wheelchair and always has a blanket in his lap.  I know how much he loves Superman, so I’m making this little Superman a blanket.

I’ve recently gotten a doll dress frame for American Girl dolls, and I’m trying to make something that will fit it.  It’s a little harder than I imagined.  My mom is coming up this weekend and I’m hoping to show her some sewing things, and she wants to sew doll clothes to sell on eBay.  She has an American Girl doll, and we’re going to put our heads together this weekend and see what we can make.

I’ve also gathered some of my leftover squares from the chevron quilt and put together how I can make a  baby blanket.  (yes, I had that many leftover squares!)  I still need to quilt the big brown blanket, finish the rainbow blanket top, and some other small projects.  And since I have so much on my sewing agenda, I’ve decided to make October Sew-tober!  I’m going to sew something every day.  Maybe I won’t complete a project every day, but I will work on something every day.  I’m hoping to get a couple of hours in each day, hopefully I can do it!  It’s a little difficult to find time when you work 40 hours a week, but I have hope.

Anyhow, I hope everyone has a lovely Oct…I mean Sewtober!

Kicking it up a notch!

I went out of town last weekend, and what do you know I’m out of town again!  Last Wednesday was mine and my husband’s 3 year anniversary and we went to Gatlinburg. And today my best friend got married!  AND I went to a baby shower!  So many things going on.  How do I find the time to sew and keep up with football!? Very carefully.

Good news everyone!  I finally finished quilting the chevron quilt!

All I have to do is bind it up and it’s ready to go!  I’m so glad.  Now if I can only finish quilting that other one…

I finally got up the nerve to try my free motion foot on my machine.  It just looked so weird and I wasn’t sure how it was going to go on!  I also found out I can’t drop my feed dogs and I have to use a darning plate.

This was my first attempt.  I think it was pretty good! So now I have that to play with. 🙂

My friend got her daughter an American Girl doll for her ninth birthday just a week ago, and since I’m here I wanted to make something for her doll to enjoy.

Now she has her own blanket and pillow!

Well I think that is about it for now.  Oh, I can’t forget about this little guy!

Here’s me and my nephew.  He was so excited to see me!  Obviously the favorite aunt. 😉

Until next time!   Happy sewing! And Roll tide! ;D

Working, toiling, plotting

Happy Friday everyone!

I know I fell off the map for a few weeks, but here I am!  Just as chipper as ever!  I’ve been working on a few little things here and there, trying to finish things up!  I have GOT to get more listings in my shop, and to list things I have to make things!  (it’s just the way it works)

I’d like to start by saying that I’ve completed the top for the chevron quilt!  It’s marvelous!  Well, I say completed, but now I’m thinking I want to add a border.  It’s 58″ x 72″ and I want it just a little bigger.  But the good news is the real pain in the butt part is done!  All those little squares, they’re all together.  One big happy family.  And they look so fancy!

I’m SO HAPPY this is done!!!

My sister-in-law asked about some owls for my nephew’s daycare and a pillow for my nephew when he goes to daycare.  I decided trying to make a pattern I already have larger would be more difficult than just making a new one.  I got started on one of the owls, and wouldn’t you know it I ran out of stuffing!  I did get him completed though.  He’s just a cute little bugger.

I made him using Simply Color by V & Co

Now, I’ve started on a “quick quilt” (or at least I’m telling myself that) that I’m excited about.  I’m using a jelly roll, and basically just sewing all the strips together and then I’m going to cut out a section and flip it.  I think that it’ll be super cool.  I already know I’ll have to put some sort of border on it, but I think I’ve got that figured out, too.

I’ve already got the purple pieces sewn together 😀

The weather has been fantastic lately!  Very un-August in the South.  It’s barely gotten into the 90’s all Summer!!!  Unheard of!!!

Well, until next time!  Happy sewing everyone!

Al would rather I not sew and just let him sit in my lap all day.

Giving Life

Well, I gave blood yesterday for the first time.  Any other time they came around I was either too small or I had just gotten over being sick or was on antibiotics or something.  But I did it!  And oh my GOD.  I got really, REALLY light-headed, then I was alright, then it was on and off, then any time I stood up I was really topply and somehow I managed to prep dinner and get it in the oven.  After dinner I decided a nap would do me good.  What was supposed to be 30 minutes turned into 3 hours.  My plans of sewing went out the window….but I had dreams about sewing!

Tonight I’m going to be all alone with my little helper, so maybe we’ll get the chevron top finished!  I’m hoping so anyway, I laid my two corners together just to see and I mean, besides the obvious size difference, they look so cool!!!  I’m also happy because my Instagram pictures have people asking me about my quilts.  Yippee!! *If you’re not already following me on there, my handle is sewfluffincute*

Anyhow, I’m off to make up for my woozy afternoon yesterday at work.  Until next time!!  Happy sewing!

Treating the Blahs

I didn’t die, I swear!  I’ve just been in a little bit of a funk lately.  I’m not sure what it is exactly, eating makes me feel more full than normal and I’ve been completely worn out.  (no, I AM NOT pregnant.)  I decided Saturday that maybe I was just getting a little stir crazy from only going to work and home, so I went to JoAnn’s.  To my surprise, the store is moving and they were having a sale.  I’m talking almost everything is 50% off sale.  I knew I didn’t need any fabric right now, but I did know that I wanted some thread…and maybe some scissors.  WHO DOESN’T NEED A NEW PAIR OF SCISSORS, AM I RIGHT!?? 😀

image

I spent $58, so I saved almost as much as I spent. The only coupon I had was for 10% off the entire purchase. I feel like I made out like a bandit.

So there I was, just walking around, looking at thread…but then after I had a handful I decided yes, I did need a basket.  I got a lot…..A LOT of thread.  I’m just hoping that it pays out because I’ve gotten a great big spool of “fancy thread” before that wasn’t worth crap!  To it’s defense it could have been some sort of specialty thread and I was using it for a different purpose.  I also got a pin cushion that straps onto my wrist, which my  husband thought was funny and took hostage for a while.  I just happened to notice his wrist…and the little green and brown pillow that was strapped on it.

image

Husband: You could have just made one of these!

I also got a big embroidery hoop which, I’m hoping to use and rig my machine into doing some free motion quilting and/or embroidery.  I know, big hopes. 😀

Sew….we meet again…..

helping with the decision process. “You don’t need to work on this one…”

I was hoping to rack up on some batting, but all that was left was by the yard, (there’s no way I was lugging that big roll over to the cutting table!) craft size and one or two crib sized.  Anyhow, all of that inspired me enough to go back into my sewing room at least for a little while.  I’ve made a few little coasters lately, hoping that would get me out of a funk, but it didn’t help much.  I decided to give the big brown quilt a break for a little while and go back to the chevron quilt.

I got another row sewn together and added to a corner.  I’m working with two separate corners right now, and there’s 3 rows left between them.  I’m feeling a little better today, and surely the gym will help out with this more, so hopefully I’ll get home and do some sewing, avoiding the lure of recorded tv.

Until next time!!  Happy sewing!

This means business! And it’s evidence I did some sewing 😀

WIP Wednesday (I suppose)

After work yesterday I got home, did my cleaning duties, and barricaded myself in the sewing room!  Well not entirely, Al needs to be free to indecisively wander in and out, and stare at me, and literally huff and puff and groan until I stop sewing.  But I did sew, much to his protest!

image

I’d say I’m at about 45% on this side.  I’m happy with the progress I made last night.

image

The balled up quilt top and snuggy are Al’s doing…he kept rooting around in the top so I brought him a snuggy…he wasn’t satisfied.

image

In case you were wondering about the piecing for this quilt, here’s a close up on a strip that hasn’t made it on with its strip brethren.  And yet, somehow even this is easy to mess up!  The last strip I got attached to he rest of the quilt I noticed the top two squares were backwards.  So I had the fun task of ripping out seams and re-sewing.  I also thought I’d take this chance to introduce my sewing machine.

This is my little pink Brother xl2610.  I like it a lot.  He’s real quiet and pretty!  Anyhow, I hope everyone is having a great day out there!

Saturday sewing!

Something strange happened.  I actually got some sewing done this weekend!  It was an exciting few hours.  I got all my squares cut, ironed, and I had an entire planning wall covered!

image

I’d taken down the corner to start sewing, but you get the idea.  I actually have to add a square to the bottom of each row to keep it long enough.

image

My little helper got bored…

image

But I am very pleased with how his is turning out.

image

There are some seams that got messed up somehow, and I’m trying to decide if I’m going to rip them out and redo them or not.  I’m thinking I should but it’s so difficult of a decision.

Iron staple….what the what?

Last night….I made a planning wall!  It was even easier than I thought.  The toughest part was figuring out where I was going to put it.  This obviously required a rearrangement of my sewing room.  It’s good though,  because I’ve been wanting to do something different in there and this gave me the need.

image

At first I considered just putting the panels over the closest door, but this was awkward.  So I moved some things around and bam!

image

Now I have a grown up looking planning wall.  Much to the dismay of my little helper

image

“Hey, I can’t rearrange them now!”

Cut iron cut iron

I got in the sewing room last night and cut up 8 strips into squares!  8 more to go, then I can start placing them and figuring out how this is going to work!

image

It’ll be fun, right?! 😀 I’m hoping to get the last strips cut up tonight and finally start placing them.  If I had one of those “quilt wall” things, that’d be great. (Going for My best Lumburg here)
