Just a gaggle of nonsense!

Just a gaggle of nonsense!
Okay I like that Doge meme too much…I admit it.
So, I’m going to follow the example I see everyone else doing today, and posting my LAST POST OF 2013!! (insert echo here)
I have been diligently working away for the past week or so in my sewing room! I finished my little Superman quilt, and he’ll be shipped off to a sweet little boy soon, along with a last minute gift for his sister! I made a quilted bag for a friend of mine, I actually got all my 9-square blocks put together and added to my rainbow quilt, all kinds of fun things!!! But, these are all just the past week. Let’s take a look back at 2013 shall we?
(get your fancy drinks ready!) This is mine….it’s sweet tea…
I got my new sewing machine this year! It’s a Brother xl2610 and it’s pink and I love it! I tried to get an extension table for it, which turned sour quickly (betrayed by amazon.com!) but, then my husband came to the rescue and used his manly skills to make my sewing table into a REAL SEWING TABLE!
I believe this year started (for sewing anyhow) with the big ugly brown quilt…okay it’s not ugly anymore. It’s just made of the uglier fat quarters from my stash. It’s still around…just…folded neatly under my quilting table on a huge box. Honestly, I’m a little scared to try and finish it now. It was pieced together with who knows what kind of thread, and since the chevron quilt fiasco, I’m worried it was with the tan cotton that lead to….that.
The next project was the aforementioned chevron quilt. While this ended very sadly, with tears, and an extended stay away from my sewing room, it was a great learning experience, I still really like it (it’s in my living room now) and I do plan on eventually taking the time to sit down and fix the holes.
In between those two quilts, I did make some stuffed animals. There was a piggy, a few owls, some bunnies! Even a turtle! So precious…I just love those little guys. I also made a few coasters just to really tweak my sewing basics…and to have something in my shop.
I really started playing with jellyrolls after the chevron quilt, and I started working on the rainbow blanket. That…kind of went on hold for a little bit, but for a good cause! I mean hello!? Superman blanket?! Then….that went on hold…but it was mostly out of fear of ripping seams and sewing with minky.
I dabbled in some doll clothes making this year, too! It…is very difficult. All those tiny seams, all those tiny tiny things….but they do turn out so precious. It makes you feel good when you can sit down for a couple of hours and finish a project super fast.
I found this video for the Missouri star quilting company just a month or so ago and I have been making these quilted bags since. I really like them; I feel like they’re a grown up bag! And, I had a giveaway on my Facebook page for reaching 100 likes, and gave away one of those quilted bags!
This year has truly been a year of learning experiences, ups and downs, even a few lefts and rights. I plan on doing a whole lot more in 2014, so stay tuned! (are we saying twenty-fourteen yet? or is it still two thousand fourteen? I’m going with twenty-fourteen)
I also want to give a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! To my sweet little helper, Al! He turned 3 years old today!
So until next year!! I hope everyone has a fun night! And a happy new year!!! Happy sewing!
Yesterday my Facebook page got to 100 likes!
(even though this morning it went back to 99…but didn’t show any dislikes…whatevs yo)
So that means it is giveaway time!
I’ll start my giveaway on Monday, so in case any of you want to get in on the fun (and possibly win this amazing bag!) then go give my page a like. There are several ways to get entered in; since you’re reading my blog you’ve already got one entry down! But, I mean, I have to make it a little more difficult than that, don’t I? So, here’s all the ways you can get your name in the pot for Monday:
Happy sewing everyone! I’m heading back to my sewing room to make one more bag!
It’s snowing in Nashville this morning! You must understand how much of a shock this is to me. I’m from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The first time I saw snow I was 7 years old, and I didn’t see it again for over 10 years…once I moved to Greenville, South Carolina. The first time I saw snow, it was “the blizzard of ’93” and it was magical. My whole family made snow men. We even made one that seemed to be 7 feet tall! Keep in mind, I’m only 5’2″ now as a “fully grown adult” so I may have been only around 3 feet tall at the time…possibly. Another fun note, it was in January or February when it snowed. So here we are, it’s the second full week of November, and it’s snowing now?! Completely ridiculous. *cough cough climate change*
In other news…I have been neglecting my sewing. YES, I said it! It’s been one of those out-of-sight-out-of-mind things. I cleaned up my sewing room before my mom came to town, and now it’s tidy in there…and I know once I get in there it’s just going to be a cluster-cuss of bits of thread and unrecognizable snippets of fabric. But besides that, I got my Nintendo 3DS…and my husband convinced me to go ahead and play my new Pokemon X game. Okay, believe it or not it took a lot more convincing than it should have. Also, my husband and I joined The Y this weekend after much contemplation. I went last night for my first Zumba class and oh my goodness. I’ve never felt so rhythmically challenged. But I muddled my way through it! And it was a lot of fun! I plan on going back on Wednesday. I planned on going home and sewing once I finished Zumba last night, but once I got home I was starving (and sweaty and gross!)….and Jaws was on…so I didn’t really have a choice. Chili dogs and beans were served.
So since I am not going to work out today, I am determined to go into that sewing room and not come out until I finish up my little Superman quilt! It is literally stitches away from being finished and it is so precious. And it’s going to such a precious little guy, I need to get it finished already! I spent a good portion of the day looking up “sewing inspiration” on Pinterest. I wish it would have worked a little better…but I’m going to get in there tonight and get to business. Heck maybe I’ll even get started on my Facebook Giveaway goody. I have it in my head, I just need to get it going.
AND! (Yes even more news!) I’m going to my first quilting guild meeting this weekend. Is there anything I should be prepared to do or be prepared for? Should I bring something? They have a show and tell, but I’m nervous. I’m generally nervous about going to new places and meeting new people. Also I’m going to need to actually finish something up if I want to bring something to show and tell. *GASP* finish something?! who does that?!
By the way, once I reach 100 likes on my Facebook page I’m having a giveaway, so if you don’t like it already, go ahead and get in the mix!
Until next time, happy sewing everyone!
I reached fifty likes on my Facebook page, and to celebrate I’m doing a giveaway! I’m very excited and happy that I’ve made it this far! I’m still working on fine tuning and perfecting my wares, so all the support is really great.
So let’s get to the fun stuff shall we? I decided the first item for the giveaway will be a set of coasters. Here is a batch I made last night and I will probably get to work on another set tonight. I would give these away but I’m not too happy with my label.
I think besides the label they turned out pretty great! Incase you’re wondering, when I reach 100 likes I’m having another give away! If you want in on the action there’s a link to my Facebook page in the top right corner!
Happy sewing everyone!
