Still here!

So, we did get the house!  I know you were all waiting on pins and needles.  It just took a couple of weeks longer, but now we’re in and making it new and ours. 🙂

Home Sweet Home!

Home Sweet Home!

We’ve spent almost one whole week in the house now, and it’s been a week of pulling up carpet, deep cleaning, questioning the dirt levels some people will live with, and buying basically everything.  Lucky for me the devil has provided me with some easy tips on how to get some things clean easier than elbow grease.  I am running low on elbow grease, and my slight carpal tunnel syndrome likes to act up at the worst possible times. “Oh, you need to scrub a tub?  Here let me make your hand feel like it’s falling off!” #thanksobama (lol)

Luckily all this waiting is really starting to pay off.  The floors will be completely finished Saturday (because golf course green is a bad color for carpet) and the painting starts today.  Our washer and dryer came on Tuesday, which…okay I’ve only ever had “traditional” washers.  We now have a Maytag that doesn’t have an agitator (fine) and uses low water (okay) and it senses the load size (alien technology) and it’s a little weird.  It needs the middle to be uncovered when you load it…but won’t it get recovered once the load starts going?  What was the point of me digging out the middle?  I digress.  It works plenty fine and if it makes my water bill lower that’s great.  I am going to get started on my sewing room once the floors are done and I get it painted (pepto bismal pink is a bad color for walls.  One accent wall, okay, all 4 walls?  AND ROSES BORDER WALLPAPER? no thank you.) and get a rug in there.  I’m very excited to get that going.  I really need to sew.  Real bad.

Al was very pleased with this floor choice. He doesn't blend in now!

Al was very pleased with this floor choice. He doesn’t blend in now!

While I’m at it, lime green and Thomas Kinkaid little houses border wallpaper don’t go well together either.  Just a little word of advice.  Funny house happenings so far:  I’ve locked myself in the backyard at least three times so far.  The back is fenced in and the gate is strange…it latches from the outside?  and there’s some kind of pole to keep it closed?  The door that goes out back will turn on the inside if it’s locked or not, and yea…I’ve fallen victim to it.  Also there is a creepy ball that was left in the back yard that keeps reappearing.  I have thrown it away three or four times, and it kept showing back up in the yard.  I’ve now cinched the bag that it was thrown away in and it has moved its way to the top of the bag.  I’m pretty sure it’s haunted.

In other news, my quilt guild’s Christmas party is this Saturday!!!  Pretty excited about that!!!  Secret Santa?!  Dirty Santa?!?!  ALL THE SANTAS!!!  I thought I was going to have my kitchen situated enough to make something for it, but looks like I’m going to be picking up something :O

I’ll post more before and after pictures soon, I don’t want to give it all away yet!

Until next time!  Happy sewing!  I’ll be able to join in soon! 😀

Returning to Normalcy (well almost)

Hey everybody!  We’re getting accustomed to our new routine a little easier now.  We’ve gotten to a point that we can now comfortably carpool to work, which is a huge savings in gas.  Sure, I have to wake up at about 5:20am (I don’t take a whole lot of time to get ready…because just like Beyonce…I woke up like this.  Oh yea.) and Al has finally gotten to where he’ll sleep through a whole night without every little bump bothering him, so things are really looking up over here.  We’ve gotten to spend a lot more time with our little nephews which has been great.  They’re such great little boys. 🙂

The view :)

The view in the afternoon!

Al's doing pretty well :)

Al’s doing pretty well 🙂

I will tell you one creepy thing; when Al does wake up in the middle of the night and needs to go out, it’s really dark so I take my phone and use my flashlight app.  Because who uses a real flashlight anymore?!  Am I right?!  Anyway, so we’re out there and its super dark and I point the light over to the fenced area where the goats are…and all you see are big white goat bodies and glowing eyes!  It’s so creepy.  They’re just standing there!  I don’t know if they’re asleep, I have no idea what is going on over there.  I have to keep Al distracted, because he’s not so sure about these big creatures with their goat eyes and horns and stuff. *Note*  I tried to take a picture this morning around 1am, bad idea.  The goats got a little startled and their watch dog didn’t like it. :O

Do you ever get the feeling you're being watched?

Do you ever get the feeling you’re being watched?

FINALLY finished my husband’s cross stitch for his office.  It was going to be an anniversary present, but now it’s his birthday present..Which is Friday! 🙂  I’m pretty proud of it, and mostly the pencil.  I printed off the quote online so that I had a guide on where to stitch.  I made up the pencil totally on my own.  YEA.  It’s so cute.  I wish I had a gray or silvery color then I could have made the little metal part, but somehow in my rainbow pack of colored embroidery floss, there is no gray.  Four or so browns, no gray.  Now I just need to finish it up and frame it…somehow.

Just..look at that little pencil!!! Completely on the fly! ❤

In other news, we’ve found a house!  We’re hoping to be closed and moved in by Novemberish.  It might be too early to tell if we could have Thanksgiving at our house, but there might be a chance.  I’m hoping to plan a housewarming party, but I’m worried that by the time we get the house situated it’ll be really cold, maybe snow and ice and people won’t come.  Plus, holidays.  Would it be completely crazy to plan a housewarming party for early next year once it starts to warm up?  Like, once we make it through the winter?  I tried looking to the devil for some pinsperation but everything looks so…Spring-y.  Let me know what you guys think.

Until next time!  Happy sewing everyone!

Recapping and Recovering

Last week seems to be a blur to me.  That’s odd, right?  I knew it.  I’ll give you a little recap just so you know that I wasn’t dead.  Because believe it or not I was alive the whole time! *Note to reader*  If you don’t know me personally, I would like to give you this visual.  Whenever I use quotation marks, there is probably a 90% chance I’m saying whatever is in quotations like Dr. Evil.

Monday:

There was a storm of sorts.  I wouldn’t really call it a “snowstorm”, it was mostly just ice, but I really wouldn’t call it an ice storm.  I mean yes, there was ice, and cars sliding all over the roads.  I still managed to get up and get to work only 30 minutes late. (okay it was 15-20 minutes later than I normally arrive at work) I just sputtered along slowly in the seemingly clear roads, well clear of cars anyway.  When I got in, there were only a few cars in the parking lot, and not many of the other offices seemed to be open.  I knew my bosses would be there, because hey, we don’t take off days for things.  By the end of the day there were only about 7 of us, which was way more than anticipated. Four out of five bosses, me, and a couple of engineers.  Not a lot happened, the phones barely rang, I took advantage and caught up all my work that has been piling up for some reason, and just needed a day like Monday to get it all back on track.  Then I sputtered home and decided it was not a good day for going to the gym.

Tuesday:

The weather wasn’t a whole lot better (apparently/supposedly) on the northern half of town, so a few more people showed up to work, but others still were stuck at home.  I listened to my counterpart telling me how she wasn’t going to risk it coming to work Monday, her husband wasn’t going in so she wasn’t either, on and on, turned into a mini rant, I just wanted to go back to my desk to get working.  I went home, and decided again, not a good day for the gym.  I decided it was a good day to test out a couple of small projects that I’ve wanted to try but for some reason kept putting off.

I got a really bad headache.  One of the kinds you can’t lift your head all the way.  Had to stop sewing and watched…something, I can’t remember what it was, maybe a movie?  Then went to bed.

Wednesday:

The headache had not dissipated in the least.  It had gotten to that “keep one eye closed” level of headache.  Now, mind you, I have had the same headache for years.  Like probably more than 10 years.  It’s always the same spot, the same debilitating pain, and it really freaks me out.  I’ve had a scan and apparently it’s naught a toomah *Kindergarten Cop* but my head just hates me sometimes.  I went in to work anyway, even though I was pretty sure at any moment I was going to die.  I also  had…some lady issues going on, so it was a mega double whammy.  One or the other, sure I can suck it up and everything will be fine.  Together?!  No thanks!  I’m done!
I told my counterpart I wasn’t feeling well, I was going to work this morning to get the “need to be done” things done, then going home.  This was met with a sigh and an okay that sounded like I called in every day or something.  Then there was a rant about an hour or so later, which, hello, my head was trying to murder me, I didn’t have my pandora playing even, the pain, the pain!  Anyhow, the rant was about people not caring about work, calling in, staying home because of headaches (uhm, HELLO?!  Way to throw some shade!) and wearing jeans and sneakers (okay I don’t use the word sneakers, but she did.  Our work does not have a dress code.  They just ask you don’t wear flip flops or holey jeans.  And I take advantage and wear jeans and my ‘grandma slip on tennis shoes’ as much as possible. Which is what I am wearing while she is ranting.)  I don’t let that bother me, I work, go home, and I sleep for a long time.  When I woke up, I thought to myself “if I can’t even work a whole day I can’t justify going to the gym” and I didn’t.

Thursday:

I decided that I would dress nicely for work, to try and make peace I guess; I’m the baking soda to everyone else’s acid.  I like to neutralize the situation.  Wouldn’t you know it, my counterpart was not at work.  She had a death in the family, which, I knew she had been expecting, but is still never easy.  One of my bosses said something about me “looking sharp” and I kind of laughed, and I told him why.  I told him that it was just to be funny or making peace or something, not to be spiteful or anything.  Because it wasn’t!  He told me to have a  “casual Friday”…and that he didn’t care what anyone wore.  I flat out did not feel like going to the gym, what was taken out of the freezer for dinner had gotten freezer burn, and we ate taco bell instead. *sigh*

Friday:

Aww yeeeaa!  Friday!  Okay, not a whole lot happened.  Work went by pretty smoothly, I wore jeans.  We go out to eat on Fridays, and we eat Mexican because it’s delicious and why wouldn’t you want to eat Mexican at least once a week?  That is about as eventful as things got Friday.

Saturday:

I was trying to think of things to do to keep myself busy, and I kept running out.  I did a load of laundry, (folded and everything!) and decided I didn’t want to do more.  I knew I needed to straighten up my sewing room, we were going to Sam’s at some point, but first I needed to go to the gym.  Hadn’t been all week, it just needed to happen.  So I did; I zumba’d my little heart out.  I got back home and felt all energized, but I still was running out of things to keep myself busy.  So…my husband made me a list.
image

Yes, he’s an adult.  He is so silly. 🙂  After my list was complete, we went to Sam’s, and then I poked around the house more.  It felt marvelous outside, and I do regret not spending more time outside, but I did go outside occasionally just to bask in the sun.  I’m 100% ready to start complaining about the heat.

Sunday:

I’d like to report a missing hour please!  We did pretty well keeping busy on Sunday.  I also decided it was way past time for me to start this quilt that I pinned on Pinterest *The Devil* MONTHS ago (27 weeks ago oh my) and never did.  I had all the fabric, I probably have the batting, what was I waiting for?  Nothing really.  So I got to cutting, and arranging, and rearranging, I then decided that the rainbow quilt needed to come down since I obviously am not going to finish it any time soon *sigh* and this cute little quilt needed to take it’s place.  I’ve gotten good “reviews” so far.
image

For some reason I tend to get things for projects, then they go on hold.  I have to do something else before I can do the things I want to do.  I don’t like that one bit.  I want to sew what I want to sew!  I also prepped a little project for my quilt guild meeting this Saturday.  I’m not making some huge thing.  I’m planning on a sort of seasonal wall hang…diamond thing.  Like a giant pot holder, only it’s not a pot holder, and you turn it for the seasons.  I figure I can hand sew this and even if it’s atrocious it’s just for fun to hang in my office.  I went to the gym Sunday afternoon, went home and ate half a pizza (I just roll like that..and my husband ate the other half) and then we watched enough tv to make up for any lack of tv watching that may have happened during the week. 😀

Until next time, happy sewing everyone!

Why Pinterest may be the devil.

Author’s Note: I only say may be the devil. Not 100% convinced this is true because I have found great meatloaf and crock pot bbq chicken recipes.

Welcome to the window of INADEQUACIES!

A few weeks ago a friend of mine posted an article which, I really laughed about, then it made me go hmm.  If you ever saw the episode of Southpark with the underpants gnomes, which I didn’t but I’ve heard enough that I get it, you know that they have no plan.

  • Step 1: Collect underpants
  • Step 2: …..
  • Step 3: PROFIT!

Now the article is actually about working out; you look up all these diet and workout plans, but never put them to use, and wonder why you don’t see results.  After reading it I realized I do the same thing about sewing, and it’s all Pinterest’s fault!  I go on there, I see these great ideas, I’m like “I can do that and put it in my store” so I pin them, but that’s usually where they stay.  They stay in my “sewing stuff”  board, and that’s the end of them.  I’m collecting underpants and expecting profit!

How can one little app have such an effect?

Another thing is, and I’ve had this happen to me a few times now and it gets worse every time, you find a pattern, you try it out and like it, then discover that it’s a licensed pattern and if you want to make it you’re going to need to buy this license.  I found a really cute “pattern” for this zipper pouch for earphones, it was just pictures, no words, but I figured it out well enough.  I was like great, I can totally do this and it’ll be a great little item for my store!  Go searching for it again (I forgot I pinned it) and what do you know, there it is, a full on pattern, and it’s licensed.  Now I’m sitting there thinking “Why should I  pay this person $10 if I just found this on Pinterest and figured it out myself?” which, is just my angry greedy side talking.  I’ll end up paying the $10 because I don’t want to be sued.  Nothing puts a damper on things like being sued.

LOSE WEIGHT! SEW BETTER HEMS! ST PATRICK’S DAY! WEDDINGS!

I’ve also read some articles about Pinterest making stay-at-home moms and dads feel inadequate because they aren’t making their child’s first birthday a 100% pinterest-inspired, homemade (and looks amazing) party.  Or their dinners just aren’t meeting the pinner’s standards.  And oh no, they printed out the “clean your house in 5 days and keep it clean forever” list, but it just isn’t working!  It’s really putting this pressure on these people who was never there before.  “Oh you got a cake at Publix, I really like their frosting” was normal party conversation, instead it’s now “I saw on Pinterest you can make your own buttercream frosting and it’s fat-free and it makes your children grow up perfect”.  Okay maybe that buttercream frosting isn’t out there…yet.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  For creative juices that need flowing, I love Pinterest.  For when I need a laugh, I’m sure someone will be sending me some hilarious ecard or something.  Need to know how to do a quick fix around the house?  Pinterest will probably have 80 million options.  When I’m at work, not so much.  It’s so distracting!  It’s even more distracting that the drama that IS Facebook.  Candy Crush can’t even keep me captivated as long as Pinterest, okay?!  It also kind of gets the creative juices flowing to a point that they’re a waterfall.  “I need to make bleach outlined profile t-shirts of my favorite logos!” “I must put tiny screw things in the back of plastic animals and make them into painted key chains!” “I have to make a OctoNauts themed birthday party banner!” (Ashley, you don’t even have children, why do you need a banner? why don’t I need a banner?!)

I think we all need some time limits on Pinterest.  Sort of like how there used to be time limits on our old AOL.  Ah yes, when the internet came from a CD…those were the days! 🙂

Anyway….here’s a little sneak peek at my next bag I’m working on.  I’m hoping this process will speed up my bag production.

Aww yeeaa!!! Gettin fancy with some stippling! 😀

Until next time! Happy sewing!
